March 15: Micah Meline

I was born to a 14-year-old mother in South Korea who was not ready to be a mom. After birth, I was left at the hospital and put into an orphanage for babies.

A family from Minnesota adopted me and truly loved me. Growing up I at first didn’t feel different but one day in kindergarten realized I wasn’t like the other kids. I felt like I was unlovable due to my birth mom not loving me. I felt this every day, which eventually led me to find friends who would accept me. They were the ones who were smoking and using drugs. I created my identity in that. My use progressed, and when I tried Meth for the first time, I felt I finally found what my life was missing. At first, I thought drug use was manageable, but it eventually tore my life apart. It’s caused me to lose everything and one day I even tried to commit suicide by driving into a bridge going 100 mph while in a Meth psychosis.

I had a parole officer who gave me so many chances, and he encouraged me to go to treatment finally.

I decided to go to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge on June 26, 2017. I always said I would never go there, but while in the program I had staff that genuinely cared and showed me my life was important. I accepted Jesus into my life, and since  that day, my life’s truly transformed. I now work for MnTC in the community outreach department, helping men and women in jails see that they can change their lives, also.
